“Heavy Metal Ninjas are a Kiwi band gaining infamy on an international scale. Their debut album Interstellar Abduction, out on Warner Music and Grind House Records Japan, follows their chart-topping self-titled EP and is a combination of beautiful symphonic arrangements, eerie space‐themes and out of this world guitar work, utilizing 6, 7, and 8 string guitars. Materializing from smoke, lighting up stages (and minds alike) with their fingers (literally!) and leaving people feeling like they’ve been abducted for real, the live show is a sight to behold. Showmanship is something that has been sorely missing from the local music scene of late, but the Heavy Metal Ninjas arena‐ready epic flamboyance is here to lift the bar.”
As ever, the band are led by guitar virtuoso, Richie Allan, and their line-up is now augmented by fellow Ibanez-endorsed guitarist Brandon Reihana (ex Blindspott/New Way Home), which increases the guitar power in HMN by a full third.
Many will recall their jaw-dropping performance of the winning classical composition at 2011’s APRA awards, and the sheer power and spectacle of their live show has to be witnessed first hand. The band deliver a ferocious guitar onslaught of instrumentals while dressed as ninjas, complete with an impressive light show that has them firing laser beams from their fingers. Showmanship is something that has been sorely missing from the local music scene of late, but The Heavy Metal Ninjas arena-ready epic flamboyance is here to lift the bar.
